A freak accident with a door has left Skally with a bump, sticking out rather like Hoggy’s neck in a crowd, and leaves yours truly still nursing an injured heel, and walking like Hursty in his high heels, from the same incident to debate all things STFC from the TMS side of the fanbase!
It was a big shock to hear midweek about the departure of Mick Wadsworth from the club, one I had not seen coming. Mick really added to the coaching set-up and although at the time of his appointment Town fans was sad to see Chic Bates leave the club; it was evident that Mick was only ever going to move the team forward. He alongside Garry installed discipline into a side that was one of the worst in the fair play league. With that he brought a passion to get things right on the training pitch and the players certainly knew when Mick felt they were underperforming. Whatever Mick does decide to do next be it a different role in coaching or moving back into the Managers hotseat in this country or abroad I’m sure that all Town fans join me in wishing him well.
At the time of writing no successor has been found as yet but I’m sure that GP has it all under control. He has cited in the local press that he wants a younger person to come in, maybe somebody to groom for when GP decides his time here has been done? I’m sure we all hope that this time is not for a while yet, but it would be nice to have a younger version of GP ready and waiting to take over when the time is right.
The national media frenzy came to Town last week as the official start to the ‘New Meadow’ or whatever it will eventually be called when the potential sponsors start to fly the money around, got underway. It’s such an exciting time for the club and it’s a pleasure to go passed the site of our brand new stadium every time I go to work. I’m sure that come 2007 and if I am in the same job then there will be a few dinner hours that last more than an hour come Saturday afternoon!
It’s good to hear that there will be photo’s of the ground taking shape published in the future as I’m sure fans would be interested in this, also what about a ‘Gay Meadow/ New Meadow’ calendar as we move towards Xmas. Yeah I know its early but marketing ideas have been in my blood since university!
Due to work I never made the game on Saturday but hearing reports it would seem as though we battled well which is always good to see. I have seen the goals on the television and have to agree with Joe Hart on the second goal, he surely never meant to score from there?!
We really need to spring back from that result today and three points and a good win will really set us up for the big one next weekend.
I like the rest of you am really looking forward to next Sunday’s game against the arch enemy and the trip to the land of sheep and daffodils. It’s sure to be an amazing atmosphere and Town are on the verge of pulling off the double thanks to Hurst’s debut in the corresponding fixture at Gay Meadow. I really hope that we go there and put on a show, there have been so many great games at Wrexham over the years with some fantastic waves of emotion that have swept the away terrace. One thing I will say to the Town fans though is this. We are travelling to watch a game of football, support the team to the maximum but don’t get involved in any trouble, it’s simply not worth it and give your fellow fans a bad name.
Enjoy the game,
Up the Town!
