England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed striker Wayne Rooney is "match fit" ahead of Thursday's World Cup match against Trinidad and Tobago. Eriksson said Rooney will not start the match, but had yet to decide whether the 20-year-old will play some part.
Meanwhile, Rooney's Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville looks set to be ruled out of the Group B game.
Eriksson said the full-back was very doubtful after pulling out of a training session with a calf strain.
Neville is to undergo a scan, with Owen Hargreaves or Jamie Carragher set to step in if he does not recover in time.

no way man!! leave it, if it aint broke, dont fix it!! all it takes is one timely stamp on the foot and thats him knacked for the rest of the tournament...hes only 20, his match fitness wont have altered one iota, bring on the big guns for when we need him, i.e quarters plus

you cant expect the lad to go straight into a big quarter final against Holland or Argentina having not kicked a ball for 8 weeks in my opinion.
Agree that he shouldnt play from the start tonight. I would probably give him 10 minutes tonight, 25 against Sweden and then consider starting him in the first knockout game if all's going well.

but he has been training normally the last week, to be honest i would not risk it...england are a good enough team to go on without him, id even say see how things go in the quarters, if we are 2-0 up then leave him for that, if we are 1-0 down then maybe get him on..i still say leave him

Would like to see him take some part tonight - then rest him against the Sweeds then set him loose! Come on England!

But Will he play ? Wayne Rooney has been passed fit to play for England against Trinidad and Tobago by independent medical advisers. Professors Angus Wallace and Chris Moran of the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham flew to Germany on Wednesday to examine the 20-year-old.
